If you’ve recognised one or more of these in your child, you’re not alone. Many families come to me feeling unsure about what’s going on or where to turn next. Often, there is more going on beneath the surface than it first appears.

My role is to help you understand what may be contributing to these difficulties, and what can be done to support your child more effectively.

There may be more going on beneath the surface…

Children who struggle with focus, learning, coordination or emotional regulation are not being difficult, lazy or inattentive.

In many cases, there may be underlying developmental factors affecting how their body and nervous system are functioning. These can influence everything from movement and balance to attention, behaviour and emotional responses.

Because these difficulties are not always obvious, they can often be misunderstood or missed altogether.

Looking a little deeper can help explain why certain things feel harder for your child than they should be, and what can be done to support them.

Many of the children I work with may already have a diagnosis such as dyslexia, dyspraxia (DCD), ADHD or autism, or parents may be starting to wonder if one of these could apply.

My work focuses on understanding what may be contributing to the difficulties you’re seeing, whether that’s affecting learning, behaviour, emotional wellbeing, sleep, coordination or confidence. By looking at how the nervous system has developed, it becomes possible to identify underlying factors that may be making things harder than they should be, and support your child in a more targeted and effective way.

I also work with adults who may recognise similar challenges in themselves and are looking to better understand and support their own development.

This is where a neurodevelopmental approach can be helpful.

By looking at the foundations of movement, coordination and regulation, it is possible to support the nervous system in a way that helps everyday tasks feel easier, more automatic and less effortful over time.

How I can help.

I work with children and adults who are struggling with learning, focus, behaviour and emotional regulation, helping families understand what may be contributing to these challenges and how they can be supported.

My aim is to make everyday tasks feel easier for your child, so they can learn, move and respond more naturally, without everything feeling like a constant effort.

My work uses a neurodevelopmental approach, which looks at how the body and nervous system have developed over time. By supporting the foundations of movement, coordination and regulation, it is possible to help the nervous system mature more effectively.

This can improve things like attention, behaviour, coordination, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Improved focus

Better emotional regulation

Increased confidence

Over time, children often become calmer, more focused and more confident in themselves. Tasks that once felt difficult or overwhelming can begin to feel more automatic and manageable.

Every child is different, which is why the approach is tailored to your child’s individual needs.

You don’t need a diagnosis to get started, and equally, if your child already has one, this approach can still be helpful alongside it.

You also don’t need to know what type of therapy your child needs. That is something we work through together, based on your child’s specific difficulties and profile.

A non-invasive, drug-free approach to supporting development

The approach I use is gentle, non-invasive and drug-free, designed to support your child’s development in a natural and structured way.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, the work looks at how the nervous system is functioning and supports it to mature more effectively over time.

You don’t need to understand the different therapies before getting started. That’s something we work through together, based on your child’s individual needs.

Why Astrolabe Therapy?

  • Astrolabe Therapy recognises the challenges faced by children with neuro-developmental delays. Our founder, having navigated her own formative years and early adulthood with puzzling challenges, understands firsthand the impact of such delays on daily life. As a qualified therapist and someone who has experienced retained primitive reflexes, she possesses unique insight into these struggles. This firsthand experience enables her to provide personalised care, recognising and addressing individuals' needs with compassion and understanding, advocating for your child to be truly seen, receiving the care they need.

  • Through comprehensive assessment, we develop a tailored treatment plan for your child. By employing diverse modalities to restore optimal health and function, we empower each individual to free their innate abilities, helping them to thrive and feel comfortable and happier in their daily lives.

  • We recognise that the underlying cause IS the problem, not the symptoms nor the child. We are dedicated to uncovering why some children have to work harder than their peers and still not reach their potential. Our work supports people in addressing the need to compensate for physical difficulties that hinder functioning through targeted exercises aimed at enhancing effortless daily functioning and overall quality of life.

TESTIMONIALS

  • "My teenage son is currently undertaking the INPP Programme. After initially completing a questionnaire and attending a 2-hour assessment we were given specific 5–10-minute exercises to do daily and received a progress review every 8 weeks. Within 6 months we have already witnessed significant improvements in his coordination, posture, balance, fine motor skills and improved cognitive functions such as mental imagery. It was evident from our first appointment that our practitioner, Taqua Imam, has a genuine passion to help children who are struggling. Her dedication, professionalism and nurturing support have greatly contributed to our positive experience. I highly recommend Astrolabe Therapy to any parents seeking to get to the root cause of challenges they face and want to provide their children with this opportunity to reach their true potential. My only regret is not finding out about Retained Reflex’s sooner."

  • "My child has always found Ms Imam approachable and sympathetic to her anxieties. She has always had a calming approach and techniques to help settle my child. As a parent I have been pleased with the way Ms Imam has conducted her appointments via phone and in person and feel confident in her methods and abilities to help my child realise they can overcome their anxieties and move forward for the future using strategies to help them succeed in feeling more balanced."

  • "From initial contact to our current review (we are halfway through the programme), our experience with Astrolabe Therapy has been exceptional. The progress our son has made with his balance, energy levels, focus and mood has been incredible. Our son has always excelled academically and physically in sports, his teacher (Ms Imam) noticed that he was constantly tired and tended to rest his head on his hand. She approached him and asked him a few questions and asked if she could get in touch with us to help him. We had never heard of primitive reflexes and did not know of their impact on a child’s development and strength. Since starting the programme, we no longer have to remind him to study or do his homework, he is more active, happier and his posture and physical strength have improved enormously. We are grateful to Taqua and all the support she has provided for us as a family."
